Gwyn Haslock, one of the truly inspiring women I photographed for the book, Women Making Waves. I felt so privileged spending a few days with Gwyn getting to know her. We surfed, we ate pasties, we laughed, and she had so many wonderful stories to tell. Gwyn learnt to surf in the 1950’s on belly boards before moving onto her first surfboard in the 60’s. She is a true pioneer to women’s surfing, even entering the surf contests before there were women’s divisions as the only female competitor alongside the men. She is an absolute legend and you can read more about her in the wonderful book.
I was super humbled when Lara reached out and asked me to be a contributing photographer alongside others from around the world to create this all female produced book, Women Making Waves. I was able to meet some incredible women on this journey who I can now call close friends, and I feel so incredibly grateful to have been a part of this project. Over two years in the making and we finally get to hold a copy in our hands. It’s like a dream come true. Thank you Lara, so proud, and so grateful - over the moon with this wonderful collaboration.
